Laser Hair Removal FAQs

Answering all of your laser hair removal queries.

How does laser hair removal work?

Laser hair removal works by using ultra-focused beams of light to destroy hair follicles. This treatment interrupts the blood flow to the follicles, which means the hairs at the base of the follicle die off, resulting in a reduction of hair growth.

What do I need to do to prepare for laser hair removal?

In order to prepare for your laser hair removal appointment, we recommend that our clients follow these steps:

  • Shave the area 12-24 hours before your treatment and avoid waxing, plucking or using hair removal creams for 4 weeks leading up to your appointment.
  • Exfoliate the area 72 hours before your treatment.
  • Make sure your skin is free from fake tan, perfume or moisturiser before your appointment.
  • For a minimum of 2 weeks before your treatment, avoid excessive sun exposure and refrain from using sunbeds.

Does laser hair removal hurt?

Laser hair removal is virtually painless with our Soprano ICE Platinum laser – the only clinically proven method of laser hair removal to be almost pain-free.

The unique heating and energy delivery method the ICE Platinum uses effectively damages the hair follicle to prevent hair growth, whilst preventing injury and pain to the surrounding tissue. At the same time, integrated ICETMtech cools the skin surface, preventing superficial burns and minimising pain.

The treatment won’t cause your skin to be sore, though you may experience some short-lived redness following treatment.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

For the best results, we recommend a course of 4-8 treatments, with a gap of between 4-8 weeks between appointments.

This is because the hair growth cycle occurs in three stages: growing, resting and transitional. Hair can only be targeted by the laser if it is in the growing stage, so not all hairs can be targeted in a single treatment.

Your practitioner will advise you on the best course of action at your consultation.

How long does laser hair removal last?

Laser hair removal offers a permanent reduction in hair growth, evident after a minimum of 8 treatments. During your initial round of treatments, we recommend treatments at 4-6 week intervals – depending on your hair type and the area of the body being treated.

Following this, we recommend maintenance treatments every 3 months to ensure lasting results. Hormonal factors and your individual hair growth patterns may require you to have more frequent or less regular top-up appointments.

How long does a laser hair removal treatment take?

This depends entirely on the size of the area that’s being treated. Smaller areas like the upper lip or underarm can take as little as 15 minutes. Larger areas such as the leg or chest will take longer, and full-body treatments can last around an hour.

Can laser hair removal be used on any skin tone or type?

Yes, our Soprano ICE Platinum laser can be used on all skin tones – from very fair to very dark. As long as your hair has enough pigment in it to ‘attract’ the laser, you’re a suitable candidate for laser hair removal! Blonde hair will require more treatments to achieve the required result.

Can laser hair removal be performed anywhere on the body?

Yes, laser hair removal treatments can be carried out anywhere on the body – even in highly sensitive places. We offer a huge range of permanent laser hair removal services, including:

  • Face: Chin, lip, jawline, cheeks, neck, beard, ears, nose, sideburns and full face.
  • Upper Body: Underarms, shoulders, hands, back, stomach, chest and arms.
  • Lower Body: Legs (full and half), feet, toes, buttocks and full body.
  • Intimate Areas: Bikini, Brazilian, Hollywood and perianal.

The lasers we use are extremely precise and accurate, so we can perform treatments such as laser beard shaping or Brazilian lasering without affecting the surrounding hair.

What should I do after treatment?

Whilst there’s very little (if any) recovery time needed after laser hair removal, there are a few things you should do:

  • If you experience any redness, you can apply ice packs and aloe vera gel to the affected area.
  • Avoid saunas and direct sun exposure for 24 hours after treatment.
  • Exfoliate the skin using a wash cloth or a gentle scrub once the hair begins to fall out – this is usually 14-20 days post-treatment.

EM Sculpt FAQs

Resolving all of your EmSculpt questions.

How does EmSculpt work?

EmSculpt uses high-intensity electromagnetic energy to cause thousands of supramaximal muscle contractions. These contractions serve to improve muscle tone and strength. This is delivered by applying ‘paddles’ to the buttocks or abdomen to tone the area and burn fat cells.

Is EmSculpt suitable for me?

EmSculpt is suitable for everyone! You don’t need to be a specific BMI or dress size to benefit from treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

We recommend a course of 4 30-minute treatments, spread over 2 weeks.

When can I expect to see results?

Most clients can see results from EmSculpt treatments around 3 weeks after treatment, with the most ‘dramatic’ results visible after around 6-9 weeks. EmSculpt is proven to cause apoptosis (permanent cell death), which means the results are long-lasting.

What does EmSculpt feel like?

EmSculpt is not painful, though you are able to feel muscle contractions and a ‘hot’ sensation whilst the treatment takes place. Most of our clients compare the post-treatment sensation to that of an intensive work out!

Is there any downtime required after EmSculpt?

No, as EmSculpt is non-invasive, no recovery time is required. You’re able to resume normal activities straight away, though we recommend avoiding workouts that target the treated area whilst you’re undergoing treatments.
